We awoke this morning at our camp (1100 metres above sea level)
at 0530, had a light breakfast and collapsed the tents so that our
porters could get on the way. We followed shortly afterwards and
set off up the trail leaving the last major village behind. We wound
our way up the trail passing through green, terraced fields and
passed through a couple of small hamlets. There is very much a subsistence
existence in this part of the world. People have nothing other than
their families, their animals and their crops yet they seem to want
for nothing and are very cheerful.
We stopped for lunch at the village of Bhote Bash (1840 metres above
sea level) and again were surrounded by local kids who were fascinated
at seeing themselves on our digital cameras. Following lunch, the
trail narrowed and we crested the ridge, briefly dropping down the
west side before following the ridge top to our camp between Sakurate
and Fururu at just below 2000 metres above sea level. This afternoon
we passed through thick forest and open terraced fields, all with
a abundance of bright Rhododendrons. Our camp site tonight is situated
on a terrace by a small school with fantastic views to the East.
It is great to be properly on our way at last.
