The Main Team leader said farewell to the High Altitude Development
Team at 0530 this morning as they set off for the Airport for their
flight to Lukla. We had a more leisurely start as our flight to
Tumlingtar was not due to depart until 1030.
After battling through the usual traffic chaos to Kathmandu Airport
we checked in our baggage only to spend a very frustrating 3 hours
sitting around. Bad weather in Tumlingtar meant that the flight
kept getting delayed and eventually, much to our disappointment,
we learned that we would not be flying today. By then, we were keen
to get out there and get on with the trek to Base Camp so it was
with heavy hearts we once more got on the bus and headed back to
the Summit Hotel. Obviously, we will not waste our last night in
Kathmandu, it so happens that the final night of the Kathmandu Jazz
Festival is taking place at the Summit Hotel tonight so we will
indulge ourselves in the cultural experience.
In the morning we will head, again, to the Airport and I hope to
send you tomorrow's update from Khandbari, which lies some 4 to
6 hours walk from the Airfield at Tumlingtar.
