We apologise for the lack of an update yesterday but power problems
prevented us from powering ther laptop. However, we have now resolved
the problem and hope to be able to continue uodating the web until
we depart Base Camp on 30 May. It is unllikely that we will be
able to provide updates during the walk-out but we will provide
full details of this phase as soon as we reach Kathmandu.
Having made the decision to strip the mountain our movements yeterday
were restricted to positioning team personnel for this phase.
The Sherpas left Base Camp at 8am, moving up to Interim Camp ready
for a further move today to Camp 2. Team personnel prepared their
kit ready to move up today to Camp 1 and Interim Camp. Equipment
already at Base Camp was itemised and packed ready for the walk-out.
Today the bulk of team members moved up the mountain to Interim
Camp, ready to receive much of the equipment brought down from
Camp 2 by the Sherpas. Andy and Dick did a final push back over
Peak 3 to supervise the stripping of Camp 2, hoping to make sure
that nothing was left buried in the snow. As ever, weather conditions
have been unsettled, with snow showers falling at intervals.
Our Sirdar returned to Base Camp having escorted our Service Patron
to his helicopter pick-up point further down the valley. The bad
weather in the lower valley had delayed the flight by a couple
of days but thankfully a brief spell of clear weather this morning
permitted the helicopter to get in.
Tomorrow we will continue to clear the mountain, dry and prepare
the equipment for the walk-out. Our porters are en route to Base
Camp from Tashigoan, expected to arrive in 2 days time.
