The radio call from Camp 1 came at 7am with Uisdean outlining
the plan for the day. Val and Dave Tait would be ascending the
ridge to continue fixing the route to Camp 2 whilst Uisdean and
Chris carried tents and equipment to support an intermediate camp
at the start of the ridge. The remaining members at Camp 1 would
be picking up the equipment left at various spots on the route
and moving it to the col at 6000m. Uisdean and Chris would spend
the night at the intermediate camp to allow a full day on the
ridge tomorrow.
At Base Camp those enjoying a rest day sorted loads for our Sherpa
(Tenzing) and for Ade who was moving up to Camp 1 to pair up with
Val. Our Sherpas Neema and Pema also moved up to Camp 1 with a
view to providing support to the lead pair in 2 days time.
At 6 pm the evening radio call confirmed the achievements for
the day. Dave and Val had made good progress on the ridge, finding
the snow conditions favourable and the going straightforward.
They were ably supported by Andy and Stu, who lifted a large quantity
of stores to the high col before abseiling back down to Camp 1
to sleep. Uisdean and Chris also checked in from intermediate
camp where they were comfortable, preparing for a long day tomorrow
- possibly aiming for the summit of Camp 3.
In contrast to yesterdays clear skies some cloud has been present
throughout the day in company with a light breeze. Cloud has thickened
during the afternoon with slight drizzle occurring. Several avalanches
occurred on neighbouring peaks, the most significant being at
8am this morning from the opposite side of the valley.
The HADT should arrive at our Base Camp tomorrow on their trek
out to Tumlingtar. It will be good to catch up on their news and
to hear first hand details of their attempt on Baruntse.
Tomorrow, Ian and Dick will move up to the intermediate camp with
a view to establishing the final part of the route to Camp 2.
