Main team - DIARY UPDATE FOR:
DAY 59 - THURSDAY 20 MAY 2004

We received a radio call from Dick at Intermediate Camp at 7
this morning saying although the weather was rough, they were
hoping to push through to Camp 2. This evening's radio call confirmed
that the 3 of them had all made it safely but the journey had
taken twice the usual time due to the bad weather and difficult
going under foot. Ben and the Sherpas made their way up today
(Ben to Camp 1 and the Sherpas to Intermediate) and they will
be joined by Val tomorrow. They will work hard to get themselves
in place for a summit attempt, should the forecast break in the
weather arrive on Monday.
Val set off down the valley, early this morning to meet his Dad,
who is on his own private trekking holiday with his friend. He
then walked with them both back up and we entertained them all
at Base Camp this evening. Our guests treated us to a bottle of
10 year old Port and some Stilton, which made a valued treat for
our taste buds.
Aleck Burrell took it upon himself to go for a run today (for
some unknown reason) and after bout 25 minutes returned looking
rather worse for the whole affair!
The remainder of us have been waiting at Base Camp where it has
been raining or snowing all day with the exception of one break
where we got a glimpse of the mountain. We really need some sunshine!
