EXPEDITION DIARY

Main team - DIARY UPDATE FOR:

DAY 58 - WEDNESDAY 19 MAY 2004

Colin, Dick and Andy awoke in Camp 1 to overcast skies and have made their way up to Interim Camp. Tomorrow, they still plan to move up to Camp 2 but this will depend on the weather in the morning and the effect that today's weather has had on the ground. It has rained at Base Camp all day today and the forecast is for similar over the next 4 days. We await news of the coming monsoon anxiously.

Val and Ben are still planning to start moving up tomorrow so they are well placed, if we do get a much needed break in the weather, to have a crack at the summit. Prior to leaving, Val will nip down the valley to meet his Dad who is trekking towards our Base Camp on his own private trekking holiday.

General Sam, Lady Anne and Chris headed up the ridge today and although they only went half as far as Camp 1, the experience let our Patron have a full understanding of the effort required to establish the long chain of Camps.

Everything now depends on the weather, we have all the logistics in place and people are acclimatized. Our success now lies in the hands of Mother Nature!
