Base Camp was disturbed at 0715hrs this morning by another helicopter
arriving to drop off equipment and team members, who will be trekking
around to attempt the normal route on Makalu (ie French Route).
The 0730hrs radio call confirmed a reasonable night's sleep for
the members at Camp One despite the storms experienced at Base
Camp last night. With a fresh team up front today, led by Colin,
it was decided to attempt a slightly different line around to
the side of some of the difficulties. The evening's radio call
confirmed a succesfull day's climbing and tomorrow will hopefully
see the team gain the crest of the ridge and access to the summit
of Peak Three.
At Base Camp we were visited by the new Spanish arrivals who
shared a cup of 'Tato Juice' (Hot Juice) with us and the normal
exped gossip. They have joined a growing number of tents in the
standard Base Camp area, below our luxurious grandstand overlooking
the whole valley.
Returning to Base Camp today after a number of hard days of work
were Dick, Ben and our two excellent Sherpas, Pema and Nima.
