EXPEDITION DIARY

Main team - DIARY UPDATE FOR:

DAY 51 - WEDNESDAY 12 MAY 2004

A busy day on Makalu today, with climbing and load carrying at all levels. Stu, Sam and Ade carried rope up from Base Camp to support the effort up high, now critically dependant on the availability of rope. Dave B., Uisdean, Aleck and Dave T moved up to Camp 1 ready to carry more equipment up via Intermediate Camp to the Col and Camp 2 over the next couple of days. Up high Dick and Ben, now based at Camp 2, moved up to just below the notch, ready to set up Camp 3 slightly higher on the ridge itself. High winds will dictate tomorrow's activities, although the Sherpas' continued efforts to stock Camp 2, now set to become a major base, will hopefully go on uninterrupted.
