EXPEDITION DIARY

Main team - DIARY UPDATE FOR:

DAY 50 - TUESDAY 11 MAY 2004

Another day on Makalu and the good news is the hard working Andy and Val are safely back at Base camp after a few days at the front end pushing the ropes up to 7100m. The bad news is that our expedition David Bailey (Andy) is minus camera and it does not look like he will be recovering it too quickly. Yesterday whilst climbing his camera was ripped from his belt by the wind and is now deposited in a deep Makalu crevasse!! So he is not too happy tonight, although he has a spare so we will have him back on the case before long.

Also on the mountain Colin, Dick, Ben, Ven and the Sherpa's have been working with loads carrying across Peak 3 to Camp 2 and now Ben and Dick are settled down at the high camp for a good night of rest prior to pushing the rope out tomorrow and exploring the ground above the 'Notch' (a break of angle in the ridge) and on towards the famous 'Black Gendarme' , which is the main obstacle on this section of the ridge and forms a steep rock pinnacle.

Finally the whole team would like to thank everyone who has left messages in or website Guestbook. We look forward to reading them weekly and they provide good source of entertainment for us all.
