Main team - DIARY UPDATE FOR:
DAY 45 - THURSDAY 06 MAY 2004
|
|
Thankfully, today the wind abated after yesterday's 50mph ice
cold experiences on the ridge. Dave Bunting and Aleck headed off
from Camp Intermediate early this morning and were at the top
of Peak 3 by about 1130. They then dropped down to Dave T's high
point of yesterday on the other side of Peak 3 and started running
out the rope towards Camp 2. They made some excellent progress,
supported by our 3 Sherpas and at about 1300 had to make the decision
to turn back to Camp Intermediate. All the Camp 2 equipment was
cached on the ridge at that point and we hope that Chris and Sam
will make it to Camp 2 tomorrow.
Uisdean and Dave T came back down to Base Camp today whilst Val,
Andy and Ade went up to join Stew at Camp 1. All 4 will move up
higher tomorrow. Chris and Sam ascended from Camp 1 to Intermediate
today and Dave B and Aleck, exhausted by their efforts today,
will come back down to Base Camp tomorrow.
We are keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will continue
to improve and that we will be able to get Camp 2 established
tomorrow, prior to looking at the route up the SE Ridge proper
towards Camp 3.
