EXPEDITION DIARY

Main team - DIARY UPDATE FOR:

DAY 44 - WEDNESDAY 05 MAY 2004

Another cold and windy day on the ridge. Uisdean and Dave T made it to the summit of Peak 3 and then tried to continue the route down to the col and our proposed site for Camp 2. They encountered some steep and difficult terrain on the way down and managed only another 200m of rope, before being turned back by strong winds and intense cold. Dave B and Aleck, together with the 3 Sherpas carried loads to the top of Peak 3 and established a comprehensive gear dump. This equipment will be moved on to the site of camp 2 when the route is complete. With a fresh supply of snow stakes tomorrow, Dave B and Aleck will continue with the push to the col and attempt to establish Camp 2. Meanwhile, Chris, Stu and Sam moved up to Camp 1. Two fresh climbers from Camp 1 will replace Uisdean and Dave, who are expected to return to B.C. tomorrow.

Those of us enjoying a period of relaxation at Base Camp took advantage of the morning sunshine to utilise the solar shower and to wash some personal kit. Appetites return at this level and it provides a welcome opportunity to stock up on food and to rehydrate with endless cups of isotonic drink.
