Before leaving our campsite the local Lhama kindly opened the
Ghompa for us to view inside. Although not yet finished the walls
of the Ghompa are already painted with many of the traditional
wall paintings and the statues of Buddha are surrounded by candles
and elaborate carvings.
We strolled through the bustling market town of Khandbari - a
village we did not view on the way up. At this point many of the
team opted for the bus ride down to Tumlingtar whilst a hardy
few decided to walk the last few miles in the sunshine.
On the way down we saw much of the preliminary work that is ongoing
in preparation for the road from Tumlingtar to Num. It is anticipated
that this work will take anything up to 10 years to complete but
it will alter the region significantly once it is complete.
At lunchtime we reached the Makalu Lodge in Tumlingtar - the starting
point for our journey nearly 8 weeks ago. Here we received the
news that we would not be flying early to Kathmandu - time to
crack a beer and put the feet up.
