EXPEDITION DIARY

Main team - DIARY UPDATE FOR:

DAY 42 - MONDAY 03 MAY 2004

After a windy night, our start was delayed due to continued high winds and intense cold. However by 0700 Dick and Ian, supported by Colin, Ben and the three Sherpa's lead out 500m of rope up towards the shoulder of Peak 3. The conditions underfoot were vastly improved, however strong winds and cold temperatures slowed progress. Views out towards Everest and Lhotse to the west were spectacular and the Kanchenjunga Massif was clearly visible through breaks in the ridge to the East. Meanwhile, Dave B, Aleck, Uisdean and Dave T remained in support at Camp 1 and will move up to Intermediate Camp tomorrow. The team are optimistic about their chances of reaching the summit of Peak 3 tomorrow, before the onset of the forecast snow showers in the afternoon. Colin and Ben will take the lead before returning to Base Camp with the rest of today's lead team.

Many happy returns from the team to Sam's Mum and both Chris' Mother and Mother in Law, who all share a Birthday today!
