We woke at 6am to dogs barking, children playing and a very overcast
sky. The valleys were full of a strange mist which hung in the
air creating a very mysterious but atmospheric effect. We hit
the trail at about 0745 and spent the day winding steadily up
the ridge. We passed through a number of small settlements until
we reached the fairly large village of Tashigaon at 2200 metres
above sea level were we pitched camp.
It began raining as soon as we arrived at the village and so we
pretty well stayed under canvas for the rest of the afternoon,
playing chess and scrabble. The lack of sun means that we are
not able to charge the computer so we will have to minimise on
outgoing e-mails for the next few days.
Tashigaon is the last major settlement we will see for the next
2 months. Tomorrow, we will climb up to 3600 metres above sea
level and camp in a wild, open space; the day after we will cross
the Shipton Pass. We are now well on our way but we hope the weather
is improved by the morning!
