EXPEDITION DIARY

HADT - DIARY UPDATE FOR:

DAY 22 - TUESDAY 13 APRIL 2004

Camp: Baruntse Moraine Base Camp (5650m)

Major Occurrences: Nil

Today, we carried some of our personal equipment up to C1 in preparation for occupying the camp tomorrow. We will continue to leave a small staff presence in our present camp with integral life support should any members need to descend to the lower altitude. The weather today was not as kind as yesterday with icy winds circulating around the couloir removing what little snow fell overnight. Notwithstanding this 10 members of the team were able to gain the upper glacier and unload their kit - this has all been lashed down firmly to snow stakes driven into the glacier, so that hopefully it will still be in the same place tomorrow!

Due to the difficult conditions in the West Col we have had to rethink the volume of equipment that we take up to Camp 1, and this includes the power and generation equipment. We will only be taking the solar charging system and a single battery (18kg 12v DC) and for the Baruntse climbing phase we may have to rationalise our reports (i.e. one every other day) and some may not contain images. However we will do our best to keep the information as up to date as possible.
